Sun City, AZ-For the past four days the men of Menlo Golf have been in Sun City, Arizona competing at the Briarwood Country Club for a shot at the conference title. It was an extremely competitive field coupled with some infamous Arizona heat. Regardless, their were some strong showings by the Oaks as well as Nicolas-Guy Landry being honored as a member of the all-conference team!
Final Act of Flogstad's Career
Across the three days of competition fifth year senior Jacob Flogstad led the way for the Oaks in what would be his final outing representing the Oaks. Flogstad was the definition of consistency, shooting one under par for the tournament as a whole on his way to a three way tie for ninth place. Despite early tee times and different pairings it is a testament to the experience of the Oaks veteran that he never shot worse than par over the three days. It was evident from the start of competition that Flogstad was enjoying every last moment out on the greens with his team. From keeping the mood light amongst his team to friendly banter with his competitors, the senior out of Norway leaves Menlo as a staple of the program over the last five seasons. It was fitting that on his final hole of the tournament he would birdie to close out a successful career as an Oak. In fact, across the 54 holes of competition, Flogstad would birdie on 13 of them.
Rounding Out the Oaks Starting Five
The next Oak on the leaderboards was sophomore Jack Stark. The native of High Wycombe, England would finish in a three way tie for twelfth place highlighted by a very strong final round of play. On day one Stark would shoot on par before finishing three strokes over through the second round of competition. Yet, his composure was on full display with a great third round that had Stark three strokes under par. In fact during his third round Stark would only submit a single bogey while putting together four birdies with every other hole being on par. One of the Oaks most consistent performers all year long is primed to stake an even bigger step next year.
Following Stark would be the duo of Nicolas-Guy Landry and Tej Gangavarapu who would finish in 17th and 18th place respectively. Landry has been the Oaks leader on the course all year long and while this wasn't his most dominant outing, he never allowed himself to be rattled. After a bit of a slow start to round two, Landry rounded into form and would finish under par on day three of the tournament. Meanwhile, Gangavarapu put together the best opening round performance for the Oaks shooting two under par to open the tournament. After battling a knee injury earlier in the spring it was good to see him finish the year healthy and strong.
Rounding out the Oaks starting group was Paul Hautbourg. A junior from France, Hautbourg would finish the tournament just outside of the top 20 with a 21st place finish thanks to a final score of 227.
Landry Named to the All-Conference Team
At the conclusion of the tournament Landry was named to the All-GSAC Team to be recognized as one of the top players in all of the conference. For the year Landry has helped lead the team to a pair of tournament championships at the Danish Classic and Fall PCH Invitational. He posted five top 10 finishes as an individual this year including three top four finishes. His scoring average for the season was 73.3 by the conclusion of the GSAC Tournament. All in all it was a great year for Landry who has long been one of the Oaks top options dating back to his freshman season when he was named the conference Freshman of the Year. This is another well earned accolade on his resume.
