Carmel, CA-While most were preparing for the Super Bowl this past weekend, Menlo Golf made the trip down the coast to host the spring rendition of the PCH Invitational at the Quail Lodge Golf Course. During the fall the men's team would claim first place with Nicolas-Guy Landry leading the way. This time it would be the women's turn as they would win the tournament by eight total strokes.
Women Dominate the Top 10
It was a complete team effort for the Oaks women with four players finishing in the top seven. Holly Obermuller and Isa San Antonio paced the team finishing second and third respectively. In fact Obermuller would fall just one stroke short of sharing the individual title with The Master's Hannah Ulibarri. Sakshi Mehta and Aitana Ramos would also finish back to back with Mehta taking sixth and Ramos taking seventh. Mehta put together a consistent two days of play while Ramos would start day one shooting 10 over par before rallying the second day to get eight over par. Lastly, freshman Alana Jacinto made her spring season debut and helped her team secure their first tournament victory over the season!
Landry & Stark Lead the Way
As for the men, the pair of Nicolas-Guy Landry and Jack Stark would be the top two Oaks on the day with Landry securing a third place finish. For Landry it was actually an improvement upon his individual finish from the fall where he took fourth place. He was the definition of consistent shooting on par both days while only falling two strokes behind the first place finisher. Landry has been playing at a high level over the course of his past few appearances and will look to keep it going as the spring season officially gets underway. Meanwhile, sophomore Jack Stark was also very consistent over the two days. Stark would finish in ninth place as an individual shooting just three over par on both days. Stark has been a solid member of Menlo's "starting five" while having a strong start to his sophomore season. Paul Hautbourg, Paul Breuer and Tej Gangavarapu would round out the Oaks original five. Unfortunately, Gangavarapu would be forced to withdraw during round one due to injury. Thankfully, sophomore Kaden Thurston was on standby and ready to fill in for his injured teammate on day two!
Up Next…
It was a great win for the women's program and the men saw solid performances at the start of their season. The teams will now spend the next two weeks preparing for their next tee times which will be hosted by California Maritime Academy at Blue Rock Springs Golf Course.
