Women’s Tennis Falls in Season Opener to Academy of Art

Atherton, CA-Finally, after contending with inclement weather, Menlo Women's Tennis was finally able to debut on the brand new Cartan Tennis Courts! The Oaks went toe to toe with the visiting Urban Knights from the Academy of Art. Unfortunately, Menlo would fall by a final score of 0-4 but the team did put for a competitive effort against a strong opponent.

Doubles Recap

Starting off in the doubles portion of the match, Academy of Art jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to taking two of the three doubles matches. The pair of Anthea Weiland and freshman Livia Harper did get off to a strong start leading their match by a score of 5-4 before the match was stopped due to Academy of Art clinching the doubles point.

Singles Recap

Through the singles portion of the day Valentina Urelli Rinaldi, Lea Mocher and Weiland all played well in their respective matches. Rinaldi won her first set, dropped the second but was leading in the third before her match was stopped. Mocher was arguably the most dominant Oak of the day winning her first set 6-3 and taking a strong 5-3 lead into the second set before having it declared unfinished. Lastly, Weiland would lose her first set 6-7 in a tightly contested match before tying the second set 3-3. Unfortunately her contest would also go unfinished as Academy of Art would secure the clinching 4-0 win before they could finish.
