Menlo Women's Wrestling Splits Tri-Dual Meet Against Vanguard and Simon Fraser

Menlo Women's Wrestling showcased their resilience and abilities in back-to-back matches during their Tri-Dual meet against Vanguard and Simon Fraser. The Oaks season opening match against vanguard was a dominant 44-6 victory but fell to a formidable Simon Fraser team 41-6.
 

Menlo v. Vanguard | 44-6
The Oaks started the day on fire by taking nine out of the ten matches against MPSF rivals, the Vanguard University Lions. Menlo began the dual with a forfeit at 103 and then Leilah Patel earned a :40 second pin at 110lbs, making the team score 10-0. After giving up a tech fall at 117, the Oaks went on to showcase their depth and skill throughout the rest of the lineup. Freshmen, Rebecca Fletcher, Janie Houser, and Maci Stemmons would dominate their opponents with Fletcher earning a 12-2 tech fall, and Houser and Stemmons earning pins to make the team score 20-5. Sophomore Valynn Kwan would go on to achieve a pin in 1:47 at 145lbs with Alana Ontiveros snagging a 12-2 tech fall to increase Menlo's lead. The Lions would go on to forfeit the last two weights and Menlo would win their first dual of the season 44-6.
 

Menlo v. Simon Fraser | 6-41
The Oaks second dual of the night presented a much tougher challenge. Simon Fraser displayed their depth across all weight classes. Despite earning a forfeit at 103lbs to open the dual, Simon Fraser would go on to win the remaining nine matches. Janie Houser would have the most competitive bout at 131lbs. Houser mounted an impressive comeback after falling behind, taking the lead in a hard-fought match. However, a late surge by Simon Fraser, culminating in a crucial takedown in the final moments, secured a narrow 12-15 victory. The Menlo women's wrestling team will look to build on their success and learn from their challenges as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
