11/2/2024 8:20:00 PM

Atherton, CA – Menlo Men's Wrestling came out with 5 placers at their home tournament in the Menlo Invitational. With multiple Division I schools in attendance, the Oaks were determined to give everything they have in order to see where they stand early in the season.

Noah Elliot Letting It Fly
Noah Elliot, the freshman from Los Angeles, CA was on a roll during the tournament. Every match Elliot had was a nailbiter, but Elliot displayed tons of flashy moments and moves that earned him the tournament victories. The freshman also won all of his matches against NCAA DI opponents! Ivan Acosta was another freshman that stood out for the Oaks. Acosta showed how critical he can be on the mat with an aggressive offense. Acosta was able advance all the way to the 1st place match but ended up with an injury that halted his momentum and took 2nd in the tournament.

Messman, Quinonez, and Escutia Showing Out
Noah Messman was the third Oak to place in the Menlo Invitational at 133lbs. Messman earned a 2nd round win over Cal St Bakersfield but would fall in the Quarterfinals. He would then fight his way back to the consolation finals and finished the tournament by taking 4th place. John Quinonez showed true grit and heart to earn his placement. The New Jersey native would fall in his opening match but would battle all the way back for the 157lb 3rd place match. Quinonez unfortunately would fall short of winning the consolation bracket 6-8 but showed that he is willing to fight for every situation. Juan Carlos Escutia (JC Escutia), was the final Oak to place. Listed at 197lbs, JC earned a three-minute fall that would get him into the semi-finals of his bracket. JC would eventually fall in the semis but would fight his way into the consolation finals match. Wrestling for every position and situation, JC would earn himself 4th place for his first matches of the season! The Oaks displayed their depth in the lineup and also are looking to continuously improve on their performances!
