OAKLAND, CA — Menlo College Weightlifting made an impressive mark at the Steve Gough Memorial Competition hosted by Max's Gym in Oakland, CA, on Saturday. Freshman athletes Kira Barad and Breanna Zide took to the platform for their first collegiate appearances. The dynamic duo delivered standout performances, each setting personal records (PRs) in a memorable debut that qualified each of them for University Nationals coming up in the Spring.
Kira Barad - 149 kg Total
Freshman lifter, Kira Barad, joined the Oaks this fall after graduating from Kapolei High School based in her hometown of Kapolei, Hawaii. Kira Barad shined with a remarkable 63kg snatch to start the session off strong. To round out the day, Barad successfully executed an 86kg clean and jerk, her first PR for the Oaks. Both lifts were significant for her first collegiate event and with a total of 149kg, showcased her strength and skill as she continues her upward trajectory in the sport.
Breanna Zide - 148 kg Total
Another newcomer to join Menlo Weightlifting this fall was teammate Breanna Zide. Zide hails from Westlake Village, CA and graduated from Westlake High School in the spring. She also made her mark, setting a personal best in the snatch with a 65kg lift. She followed it up with an 83kg clean and jerk, giving her a total of 148kg and a solid foundation as she embarks on her collegiate weightlifting career as well.

Menlo College Weightlifting continues its season with high expectations as Barad and Zide look forward to further growth and more milestones ahead. The next Menlo Weightlifting appearance will take place at the Golden West Open Don Wilson Memorial on Sunday, November 3rd in Modesto, CA.
