Santa Barbara, CA - With the final round of the Westmont Invitational in the books, Menlo Women's Golf battled to the very end and had a very successful round as a team. Although the team finished in fourth place out of six teams, Menlo shot the low team score for the tournament with a 311. The Oaks put up some great scores throughout both days of the tournament and it was great to see.
Fanning and Mehta Lead the Way
Freshman Rori Fanning had a great final round in the Westmont Invitational. Fanning ended up shooting a 75 today and had a few solid holes that helped her achieve this score. Having shot three over par, it was an eagle on hole one that set the tone early and she had a smooth round throughout. In addition to the eagle, Fanning also posted back to back birdies on holes 15 and 16. This dominant performance today helped her climb the leaderboard and finish tied for seventh alongside her fellow teammate.
Sophomore from India Sakshi Mehta came into the round today as the leader for the Oaks and used that momentum to thrive into today and shoot a 76. Having shot four over par, Mehta tallied a total of 12 pars and one birdie on her scorecard. She also finished tied for seventh with Fanning and was spectacular on the green today with putting. Mehta also had some great approach shots which set her up nicely on the green.
Lowest Team Round of the Tournament
Menlo Women's Golf shot the lowest round of the tournament today with a team total of 311. In addition to the 75 and 76 from Fanning and Mehta, Senior Holly Obermuller and Junior Isa San Antonio were there to back them up. Obermuller shot six over par today and finished the round with a 78. She had great precision with her driver and hit many fairways in regulation. San Antonio shot an 82 today and was able to successfully capitalize on hole 15 and walk away with a birdie. She finished ten over par and was tied for 16th. After the round Golf Director Mike Givens said, "They played like they should, they made the necessary adjustments and it showed today. One thing we need to work on is to just be more consistent. However I am proud of them for having the lowest team score for the tournament but now it's back to the drawing board."
