10/16/2024 4:07:00 PM

Beaumont, CA - After the final round of the Vanguard Invitation, the Menlo Men's Golf team brings it home with a final team score of five over par.  It was absolute domination for the Oaks as they swept the leaderboard going four for four.  In the final round, the team finished with a total score of three under par.  The combination of veterans and freshman showed out today and walked away victorious

Stark, Hautbourg, Eng, and Shell Go 1 2 3 4

Senior Jack Stark walks away on top.  After being two over par after day one, Stark only had one thing on his mind; to go low.  Stark not only finished the final round at three under par, 69, but he also walked away winning the tournament individually.  Stark finished the final round with seven total birdies on his scorecard.  It was one remarkable day for him as he led the Oaks to victory.

Finishing just behind Stark was none other than the Senior from Paris, France, Paul Hautbourg.  Hautbourg came into the final round with a score of one under par and finished just one over par.  Hautbourg also tallied five birdies on his scorecard and had some great putting in his final round.

Freshman Wei Jin Eng stepped up in the final round finishing in third place overall in the field, shooting an amazing two under par just one stroke behind Hautbourg.  Contributing to Eng's score were the six total birdies that he logged on his scorecard.  Eng finished off the tournament with a total two over par.

Last but not least Freshman Emmett Shell had a fantastic final round that contributed greatly to the Oaks success today.  Logging four birdies on his scorecard, Shell finished the final round at one over par; six over for the total tournament.  He finished in fourth overall place in the field.

Into the Record Books

In the Mike Givens Era, this team total of five over par is the second best team total for the Golf Program.  Givens said, "These guys played to their potential, I am so proud of each and every one of them and they all have bright futures.  They played lights out and kept the foot on the gas pedal."

Coach Ryan Stefko after the tournament said, "I was very impressed with how they played today, they started off well and finished even better.  Sweeping the board four for four is tough to do and I think it's the first time we've ever done it.  Onto the next one."
