Klamath Falls, OR - After a final round filled with ups and downs, the Oaks battled through adversity and were able to secure second place out of seven teams in the Run-in at the Ranch tournament. The team shot 26 over as a team on day two which is the same as what they did on day one. It was a major team effort this weekend and the result reflected such.
The Uphill Battle
There were a few factors that came into play today for Menlo Women's Golf that tested them on the course. It started off with Kayla Lancaster falling ill over the weekend; not feeling 100%, Lancaster came out with her head held high and battled til the very end. She finished off the round shooting a solid 83 despite not feeling well. About half way through the round, sophomore Sakshi Mehta rolled her ankle on the ninth hole. Despite being in pain, she finished the round and went on to lead the Oaks on the leaderboard with a 77 on the day. Overall, Mehta finished T-7th with a combined score of twelve over par.
Major Team Effort
Going into the final round, the Oaks were sitting in third place and were two strokes back from the second place team. Strong performances from Holly Obermuller, Isa San Antonio, and Rori Fanning was enough to push Menlo up the leaderboards into that number two spot. Obermuller came out today and shot a 79 and was once again lights out from off the tee. San Antonio completed the final round shooting an 82 and had a very strong last few holes. Fanning, who was also bothered by lingering injuries, shot the team low with a 76. Her approach shots were absolutely dialed as she was putting herself in great positions on the green. Golf Director Mike Givens after the round said, "I was very happy to see how consistent they were today, they did a great job battling through adversity and I could not be any prouder in every single one of them."
