ATHERTON, CA – Menlo Men's Wrestling hosted their Alumni Night on Friday evening which was followed by a dual against the Vanguard Lions inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion. The Oaks won nine of the ten weight classes and totaled three pins, a sudden death victory, a tech fall, and three wins by decision! Menlo will be right back on their home mat in one week for their final home showdown and plan to celebrate Senior Night!

 

Oaks Dominate the Lions

It was Nicolas Aguilar's (125) first time on the mat as an Oak this season and he showed confidence through his 19-4 tech fall over Dominic De'Altenaga. Jovan Garcia (133) would earn the win by decision to set Michael Torres (141) up with a 14-0 lead. With just nine seconds left in the first period, Torres was able to lay the pin down to give Menlo 6 more points. At 149, Ezekiel Lara and Bryant Avila would wrestle all three periods and stay tied 1-1 to push it to overtime. A 2-point takedown would end the match in sudden victory in favor of the Oak. 157 would go to Vanguard but a forfeit was 165 would give Rysan Leong (165) the easy 6 point win. Connor Cormier earned a 4-1 victory over Marquize Brown after being down 1-2 the entire match before executing a 3-point takedown in the last seconds. Isaiah Morales (184) and Michael Torres (197) each pinned their Lions to secure the dual win. And to end things strong, Joseph Rodondi (HWT) would win 3-2 in a very tight decision! This team win feels good for the Oaks as they have returned to their home base after almost a month of traveling.

Menlo Men's Wrestling will return to Haynes-Prim Pavilion one last time this 2024 season on Friday, February 2nd at 7pm. The night will begin with the Senior night ceremonies and will follow with a dual against Simpson University!
