Women’s Tennis Wins Fourth Straight Match

4/8/2023 8:58:00 PM

Atherton, CA-After plenty of rain over the past few weeks Menlo Women's Tennis was finally able to take the court against Holy Names. Despite having this match postponed earlier in the season, Menlo looked locked in and defeated their opponents from across the Bay 6-1. This marks the fourth consecutive win for the Oaks who have combined to defeat their opponents 27-1 over their last four contests.

Down to the Wire in the Doubles
The Oaks would start the doubles with a one point lead with Holy Names unable to field three doubles pairs. Valentina Urelli Rinaldi and Milana Hrudka jumped out to a commanding lead in their set and would win 6-1. Still, it would come down to the wire with Franziska Niederle and Angelika Sidorov battling back and forth with their opponents. Unfortunately, the duo would fall in a tiebreaker set 7-4. Regardless, Menlo would still emerge victorious and start the singles matches with a 1-0 lead.

Solid Showing in the Singles
Once the singles matches got underway the Oaks began to find their stride. Andrea Vlasceanu started things off for Menlo with back to back dominant sets. She would secure Menlo's second point winning 6-2 and 6-0. Rinaldi also put together a strong solo outing defeating her opponent 6-1 and 6-3. Yet, the final two matches featuring Niederle and Hrudka would prove to be close affairs. Hrudka would be the final Oak to finish play and emerged victorious winning both of her sets by a score of 6-4. Niederle would once again find herself in a drawn out match losing the first set 7-6 but rallying to take the second 6-2. Eventually, the senior out of Dachau, Germany pulled out the gritty victory winning a tiebreaker round 7-3.

Up Next…
The Oaks have really hit their stride over the course of their last four matches. Not only are they winning but doing so in a dominant fashion. The team will look to take the court again in a few days against visiting Dominican University next Wednesday the 12th. If their recent play is any indication, it should be another great outing for the women of Menlo Tennis!
