Surprise, AZ-In their inaugural season Menlo Women's Tennis has already put themselves on the map. The first year program has been ranked in the top 25 of the NAIA all season long, went 11-3 in the regular season and reached the conference championship game. This is only the beginning for Menlo's newest and most exciting athletic program!
Semi-Finals vs HIU
After a first round bye, the Oaks would face Hope International in the semifinal round. Immediately it was clear that Menlo had their eyes set on a championship appearance. They would win the doubles portion of the match convincingly. Valentina Urelli Rinaldi and Milana Hrudka won in convincing fashion with a 6-3 score. Menlo's second pairing of Franziska Niederle and Anthea Weiland were just as dominant, also winning their match 6-3 as well.
Once the singles got underway it was all Menlo! Not only did Rinaldi and Niederle pick up wins but so did Angelika Sidorov. The junior out of Germany would win both sets 6-3 to give Menlo their fourth and match clinching point.
Finals vs Westcliff
Having defeated HIU Menlo was set for a rematch against top seeded Westcliff. Unfortunately, Menlo would fall short against the nationally ranked Warriors. During the doubles Rinaldi and Hrudka picked up a win thanks to a dominant 6-0 performance. In the singles Rinaldi and Hrudka were on track to secure a victory but unfortunately the match had already been decided meaning both players would be left with an "unfinished" tag on their matches. Westcliff would end up winning 4-0.
Up Next…
Menlo now must play the waiting game in the hopes that they receive a national tournament bid. If this is the end of the season for the team it was an outstanding showing for a first year program. As it stands the team will be returning all its key players as well as some exciting new recruits that are on the way!
