Men’s Tennis Loses A Close Contest to ACU 3-4

4/27/2023 7:28:00 PM

Surprise, AZ-In their first season the Oaks found success through the regular season en route to a GSAC Tournament Appearance. It was a back and forth contest with sixth seeded Menlo taking on the third seeded Arizona Christian Firestorm. While it was not the results the team was hoping for, they should still hold their heads high knowing that this is just the beginning for the young program.

Doubles
It was clear from the start the match would be a close affair. During the doubles the Oaks would lose two of three possible matches. Yet, all three would be decided by a score of at least 6-3. Saar Rogovski and Jan Trautwein would be the one pair to secure a victory by defeating ACU's duo 6-3.

Singles
Once the singles got underway Menlo began to climb back into the match winning two singles matches relatively quickly. Afrasiab Zand got the team on the board winning in two sets by consecutive 6-3 scores. David Mulas Zelenskaya, who has been a staple for the Oaks, also picked up a win thanks to winning 6-4 and then 6-2. Lastly, freshman Ruben Russwurm picked up a victory thanks to winning a tiebreaker round 7-3.

Up Next…
In only one season coaches Ben Cabell and Rudy Abitago Jr. have already got the program heading into the right direction. With all six singles players returning things should only be looking up for Menlo Men's Tennis from here!
