Atherton, CA-In their regular season finale the Women of Menlo Tennis kept up their winning ways defeating their GSAC rival handedly. This win now brings the Oaks final record to an impressive 11-2. Menlo hasn't lost since the middle of March and looks primed for a deep run in the conference playoffs at the end of the month.
Sweep Through the Doubles
As has become the norm for Menlo the team jumped out to an early lead thanks to a sweep through the doubles. Franziska Niederle and Angelika Sidorov led the way with a 6-1 victory. The other matches were much closer but still resulted in wins for the Oaks. Valentina Urelli Rinaldi and Milana Hrudka were able to pull out a 6-4 victory. Lastly, Lea Mocher and Andrea Vlasceanu were engaged in a back and forth match but emerged victorious with a 6-5 victory that came down to the final point.
Close Matches in the Singles
Once the singles got underway the match would continue to be all Menlo despite some close matches. Mocher and Vlasceanu were able to pull out quick wins. Mocher would win 6-0 and 6-1, almost shutting out her opponent. Vlasceanu managed two solid sets as well, winning both her rounds 6-1. Lastly, Urelli would clinch a Menlo win with back to back 6-3 wins. Urelli has been on a tear lately in particular winning six straight singles matches and ranking #23 in the nations as a singles player.
Up Next…
It is now time to turn their attention to the postseason. Thanks to a dominant run through the regular season the Oaks have secured the number two seed for the upcoming GSAC Tournament in Arizona. If the bracket plays out as expected there is a chance for Menlo to have a rematch with Westcliff, one of the two teams to defeat the Oaks this year. Regardless, it has been a great start the new program in their first year!
