Atherton, CA-It's been over a month since Menlo Men's Tennis last took their home court at Wunderlich. Despite being on the road in both Southern California and Arizona, the Oaks have managed to win their last four matches and were primed for another victory against visiting Holy Names. After multiple weather postponements the two schools were finally able to compete with Menlo securing a 5-1 victory over the Hawks.
Winning the Doubles
The Oaks were able to start the match strong with a 1-0 lead thanks to winning the doubles portion of the day. Both the pairs of Luis Hochenauer/David Mulas Zelenskaya and Angel Roldan/Ruben Russwurm secured victories. Hochenauer and Zelenskaya were able to win 6-2 while Roldan and Russwurm were also convincing in their victory thanks to a score of 6-3. The Oaks final pair Paul Niederle and Afrasiab Zand would fall 6-5 but constantly battled to keep the set close down to a tiebreaker round.
Solid Showing in the Singles
The solid momentum from the doubles carried over into the second half of the contest. /David Mulas Zelenskaya, Angel Roldan and Ruben Russwurm all managed to win their individual matchups on the day as well. Russwurm in particular was dominant winning both sets by a score of 6-1. Jan Trautwein, the freshman out of Tuebingen, Germany, did not compete in the doubles but did see action in the singles. Despite not playing earlier in the day he didn't miss a beat. Trautwein would win his first set 6-3 before closing out his opponent with a 6-0 shutout to secure the win. Hochenauer was on a roll winning the first set 6-1 before a back and forth battle in the second. Thankfully Menlo had secured the overall victory and his final match wouldn't need to be completed.
