Atherton, CA- Menlo Women's Tennis has had multiple matches canceled due to weather. Thankfully it was a sunny day at the Wunderlich Courts for the Oaks to take on the visiting Chaminade University Silverswords. From the start the match Menlo was all business and would manage to sweep Chaminade 7-0. Not only did Menlo win all three doubles matches but all six Oaks participating in the singles portion of the contest would win as well.
Dominating the Doubles
To start the day Menlo was ready to make a statement. Not only did all three pairings come away with wins but Valentina Urelli Rinaldi and Milana Hrudka were dominant, not allowing their opponents to score a single point on their way to a 6-0 victory. Franziska Niederle and Angelika Sidorov also pulled away in convincing fashion with the 6-2 victory.
Sweeping the Singles
Coach Ben Cabell's squad looked good during the doubles. Yet, during the singles they looked dominant. All six Oaks would win their matches within two sets. Not only would there be no tiebreakers required but Rinaldi, Lea Mocher and Angelika Sidorov would dominate with back to back 6-0 sets. The team was clearly happy to be back on their home court and came out ready to compete.
Up Next…
This win kicks off a big, three match home stand for the Oaks. With the weather hopefully staying clear Menlo will next face off against the College of Idaho this coming Monday back at Wunderlich! With the GSAC Tournament roughly a month away wins like this are big for building confidence among the first year program.
