ATHERTON, CA – #6 Men's Wrestling hosted Simpson for a Cascade Collegiate Conference showdown at Haynes-Prim Pavilion tonight. The Oaks had control the entire time taking the Redhawks down, 41-9. The night featured two exhibition matches followed by the normal line-up.
Menlo took an early lead after Christopher Gaxiola (149) won his bout by forfeit due to an in-match injury of Manny Lopez. Not too long after that, Rysan Leong, ranked #3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, pinned Mirlan Matkaziev (165) in just the first period of the bout. From there the Oaks dominated.
Hunter James (197) had a come-from-behind win against Victor Moore. James was down by 1 and needed to get 2 points. With 15 seconds left in the bout, James shuffled behind Moore for 2 points to take over the dub. To finish off the night, Jovan Garcia (133) pinned Luis Saucedo in the second period and Gulomjon Abdullaev pinned Elian Murrillo in the first period to seal the victory for Menlo, 41-9!
The Oaks next showing is in one week, Friday, February 10th, at 7pm for a Dual against San Francisco State where 11 seniors will be honored before the match in a Senior Day Ceremony!
