SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- The Oak Squad of Men's Wrestling drove up to San Francisco State for a mid-week dual faceoff against the Gators. The Oaks were able to gain a 9-0 lead before the experienced Gators took over and ended in a 9-43 loss. It was a good opportunity for some new wrestlers to get more mat experience while also getting to compete against NCAA Division II opponents. Now they know what it will be like next year when Menlo becomes a member of the NCAA DII as well!

Guillermo Tallies First Collegiate Win
In the first match of the night, Ethan Guillermo faced off Hayden Ancheta for his Menlo debut. Guillermo tallies two quick 3-point takedowns in the first period to take an early lead. He then was on defense mode and added 4 escapes while Ancheta evened out the score. The third period ended and a point was awarded to Ethan for his riding time. The bout would end in favor of the Oak by a decision score of 14-13. This would account for Ethan's first collegiate win in a dual and it was against a high-level opponent! Luis Solis won by forfeit, making the team score 9-0. Unfortunately Menlo was unable to keep up with the Gators the rest of the night, some foes being ranked top 10 in the nation at the NCAA level. There are many takeaways that Head Coach Ty Lydic can bring back to Atherton to help prep the team for their next outing.

Oak Squad Men's Wrestling has one more chance on the mats in 2023 in just a few weeks before the year ends. On Sunday, December 17th, the guys will be in Las Vegas, Nevada for the Desert Duals!
