Janie Houser Earns the Top Spot at Sac City Open as the Oaks Take Second

Sacramento, CA – The Menlo women's wrestling team delivered a series of commendable performances at the 2025 Sacramento City College (SCC) Women's Open, showcasing their talent and determination across multiple weight classes. Star freshman Janie Houser continues to prove how lethal she is as the season comes close to the end. The program was able to take second place right behind Cerritos College.
 
Individual Placements
 
110 lbs: Micaela Correa earned a 2nd place finish, amassing 15.0 team points. She achieved two technical falls and a pin before facing Delta College in the finals and dropping a heated battle.
 
117 lbs: Rebecca Fletcher secured a 2nd place finish, while contributing 14.0 team points. Fletcher displayed her strength early in the tournament with back-to-back falls against Delta College and Santa Ana College. She reached the finals but was edged out by Mt. San Antonio College to claim 2nd place. Leilah Patel also was able to claim 3rd place with 9.5 team points, demonstrating resilience through multiple technical falls and decisive victories in the consolation rounds. Patel kicked off her tournament with a 9-0 major decision over Santa Ana College but suffered a loss in the quarterfinals. In the consolation rounds, she fought back with two technical falls, including a 10-0 win over Cerritos College. The freshman secured 3rd place with a dominant 11-0 victory over her opponent from Sac City to end her night.
 
124 lbs: Sara Vela achieved 3rd place, adding 11.0 team points to help the Oaks team point total. Vela started with a 10-0 tech fall over Sac City before dropping a close match in the semifinals. Vela rebounded in the consolation finals with an 8-2 decision victory over Cerritos College to finish in 3rd place.
 
138 lbs: Janie Houser emerged as the champion in her bracket, earning 1st place and 18.0 team points. Houser dominated her way to the championship title with three consecutive falls. She was able to pin Delta College in under a minute, followed by a 1:42 pin over Sac City. In the finals, Houser secured a fall in 3:05 to take the gold medal. Maci Stemmons secured 2nd place, contributing 14.5 team points, with notable victories leading up to the finals. Stemmons powered through her side of the bracket with two quick pins before reaching the finals. Despite a strong effort, she finished in 2nd place, securing crucial points for the team.
 
160 lbs: Mikayla Lancaster achieved 3rd place, adding 15.5 team points, showcasing technical prowess with multiple technical falls in the consolation rounds. Lancaster started strong with a technical fall over Santa Ana College before falling in the semifinals. She bounced back in the consolation bracket with a 10-0 tech fall over Delta College and finished her tournament with a pin in 1:50 against Sac City to claim 3rd place.
