ATHERTON, CA – The Menlo Women's Wrestling program opened their season up by dominating at their annual Menlo Women's Open, crowning 3 champions and placing 11 wrestlers in the top 4.

Veterans Leading the Way
Menlo had three veterans returning from redshirts last season and crowned themselves as champions in their weight class. Kayla McKinley-Johnson led the way at 110lbs and came back looking sharper than ever. The senior earned 2 tech falls and a pin to put herself in the finals of the tournament. McKinley-Johnson dominated her finals match to take the 110lb weight class.

Alexandra Lopez delivered one of the most dominant performances of the day. She didn't surrender a single point across five matches, racking up four 10-0 tech falls and a 27-second pin in the finals to claim the 160lb crown.

Kalila Shrive returned to action in a big way at 180lbs, opening her day with a 16-second fall, followed by a 10-0 tech in the quarters. In the semis, she battled through a tough 3-2 win, then shut the door with a 31-second pin in the final to complete her Menlo Women's Open run.

Oaks All Over the Podium
Navjot Waraich made her collegiate debut with an impressive showing. The freshman from Dublin, CA fell in the first round but showed true adversity on the backside of the bracket with three pins and a tech fall in the consolation finals to claim third-place in the 103lb bracket.

Hayden Fry opened her season up at 117lbs with a technical fall in her first match of the year. Fry would fall in the next round but answered on the backside with a fourth-place finish to conclude her tournament.

Louisa Schwab and Haley Narahara both dominated the 124lb weight class. Narahara didn't let up a single point on her way to the finals, earning 43 total points in the tournament. Schwab also proved to be just as lethal, earning a decision win and three techs to also put herself in the finals. Both wrestlers double forfeited the first-place bout, with both sharing second place.

Right behind Narahara and Schwab was freshman Isabel Navarro making her collegiate debut. Navarro started her career off with two pins and a tech to get herself into the semifinals. The freshman would fall in the semis but battled through the backside to claim third place.
