11/1/2025 10:31:00 PM

ATHERTON, CA – The NCWA Menlo Women's Wrestling program made history inside of Haynes-Prim Pavilion with their first-ever dual meet victory, defeating Ottawa University of Arizona 33-24 in a thrilling back-and-forth battle.

Comeback Sparks the Victory
After dropping the first two matches of the night by pin, Jesmeralda Lara was able to flip the momentum in the gym with a huge pin to put the Oak on board. Bay Area Native Luciana Rodriguez followed with another fall at 124lbs to tie the team score at an even 12-12.

The Oaks were able to take the lead after Lastevia Muir edged out a close 11-8 decision in an exciting match. After earning a double forfeit at 138, Ottawa was able to get six points back on the board at 145. However, Leia Hernandez and Jessica Mendieta both delivered first-period pins, exploding the Menlo crowd and giving them a commanding 27-18 lead.

Though Ottawa responded back with a pin of their own, the dual came down to the 240lb weight class. Neila Fritts was able to secure the Oaks first-ever program dual meet victory with a fall in the first period, making a historic night to remember.
