Menlo Men's Wrestling Makes Statement at ERAU Mile High Open

PRESCOTT, AZ –
Menlo Men's wrestling opened their first road trip of the season with a strong showing at the ERAU Mile High Open, bringing home three medals and delivering several standout debuts across multiple weight classes.
 

Handful of Debuts
  • Quentin Harding delivered a strong collegiate debut, earning 3 takedowns on his way to a second period pin in his first ever match as an Oak. Harding would also punch his ticket to the quarterfinals.
  • Nicholas Hernandez also made his collegiate debut, earning a tech fall and a pin in his first two matches as an Oak to make the quarterfinals
  • Transfer Devan Carter made his Menlo debut, earning three bonus point victories on the backside of the bracket to make the consolation semifinals
  • Heavyweights Javier Martinez and Luke Randazzo would make their Menlo debuts as well
 
Tapia Strikes More Gold While Feizi and Morales Bring Home Silver
At 133lbs Atridad Feizi opened his day with nine takedowns across two quick wins, picking up a pin in round one and a tech fall in the quarterfinals. Feizi would earn a big win in the semis, pinning the No. 17 NAIA wrestler, Matthew Terrance of Doane, in the third period to make the finals. Feizi's run at the ERAU Mile High Open would come to an end after falling in the finals to claim second place.
 
Senior Kanaipono Tapia ran through the 165lb bracket, earning two falls within less three total minutes being on the mat up until the semifinals. Tapia would go on to have the most exciting match of the night in the semis, going up against his old high school teammate in Jonah Chew. With both wrestlers putting themselves into scramble situations and not giving up an inch, the two battled to the end, with Tapia besting Chew in a memorable 4-1 sudden victory. In his final bout of the night, Tapia would go on to earn gold by beating Jayden Luttrell by a score of 8-3.
 
Sophomore Diego Morales would begin his tournament with a hot start, earning a 21-6 technical fall. In the quarters, Morales would earn a 42 second pin to get into the semis. Morales would go on to beat the 23rd ranked wrestler at 197lbs in NAIA in Chase Stieb by earning a takedown during a scramble situation, punching his ticket to the finals and claiming second place.
