Menlo Women's Wrestling Makes History, Claiming the First Ever MPSF Women's Wrestling Championship

ATHERTON, CA – For the first time ever, Menlo Women's Wrestling dominates the MPSF Championship by beating Vanguard University in a dual 27-13. The Oaks were able to claim 6 out of the 10 matches in the dual with a double forfeit by both teams in the 207lb weight class.
 

Taming the Lions
In the first two matches of the dual, the Lions were able to pick up narrow wins to start the dual off 2-6 in favor of Vanguard. Rebecca Fletcher would claim a victory by forfeit in earn crucial team points to put the Oaks in the lead 7-6. Leilah Patel would earn a commanding 6-0 decision at 124lbs to increase the Oaks' lead and stop Vanguard from securing a team point, now making the team score 10-6. Sara Vela would be the chosen Oak to take on the 131lb weight class. Vela would be put through a battle and a half in her match trading take downs and points to determine the victor. Vela would show how resilient she is by securing a decisive 9-4 win with the team score now becoming 13-7. Menlo would put up two lethal freshman at 138 and 145 in that being Maci Stemmons and Danica Kelley. Maci Stemmons would put on a masterclass of offensive moves to pin her opponent in just over four minutes for huge team points. Danica Kelley would follow Stemmons footsteps, but Kelley would pin her opponent in a more quick and dominant fashion, ending her match in two minutes to give the Oaks a comfortable 23-7 lead. Mikayla Lancaster had the final match of the night and closed it out with a bang. Lancaster would showcase her technical prowess with an 11-1 tech fall in 3:23 to give the Oaks their final points of the dual 27-8. Vanguard would earn a forfeit with the final match score being 27-13. This win marks a historical day for Menlo Women's Wrestling as they are the first ever MPSF Women's Wrestling Champions and this team will become an important part of the future of growing women's wrestling.
