ATHERTON, CA – Menlo College is thrilled to announce the promotion of Jess Sayo to Assistant Director of Sports Performance. With a remarkable seven-year tenure at Menlo College, Jess has demonstrated unwavering dedication and excellence in optimizing athletic performance, making him a standout leader in the field.
Throughout his career at Menlo College, Jess has been instrumental in developing and implementing innovative strength and conditioning programs that have significantly contributed to the success of Menlo's athletic teams. His expertise and leadership have been pivotal in elevating the sports performance department and fostering an environment of excellence. Sayo primarily works with Menlo's Women's and Men's Wrestling programs who have been historically successful. Menlo Women's Wrestling notably secured the NAIA National Championship Tournament last season with 11 All-Americans and a National Champion (191) in Tavia Heidelberg-Tillotson.
Originally from Chicago and raised in the Bay Area, Coach Sayo joined the Menlo College Sports Performance staff in 2018 following his graduation from California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology in 2015. His journey into sports performance began early in life, with a background in martial arts from the age of 8 and a transition into football during high school. It was through these experiences that Jess discovered his passion for strength and conditioning and his commitment to enhancing athletic performance.
In addition to his Bachelor's degree, Jess earned his Master's degree in Kinesiology from San Jose State University in Spring 2019. His credentials also include certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach certification from USA Weightlifting.

"His passion, dedication, and expertise in strength and conditioning have not only enhanced our athletes' performance but have also set a high standard within our department. We are excited to see the continued positive impact Jess will have in his new role."
As Assistant Director of Sports Performance, Jess will continue to lead efforts in optimizing athlete training programs, conducting performance assessments, and advancing the overall sports performance strategy at Menlo College. His promotion reflects the college's commitment to recognizing and rewarding outstanding talent and leadership within its ranks.
