Menlo Women's Wrestling Crowns 1 Champion and 9 Placers at Menlo Women's Open

Atherton, CA – Menlo Women's Wrestling had their first competition of the new season by hosting the Menlo Women's Open inside of Haynes-Prim Pavilion. The Oaks had a total 19 placers across nine weight classes along with three champions, showing that Menlo is still pushing for dominance as the season goes on.
 

Getting it the Year Rolling Early
The Oaks from the jump got the ball rolling in the lower weights. At 103lbs, Angelique Cervantes had two falls heading into her final match before taking 2nd on the day while freshman Leilah Patel showed promise as she ended the day taking 5th at 110lbs. Fellow freshman Janie Houser made her debut and made an impression by pinning her final opponent in under three minutes and took 5th at 131lbs. At the 138lb bracket, every Menlo wrestler that entered in the weight placed. Maci Stemmons led the way by taking 2nd, with Valynn Kwan taking 3rd, Danica Kelly was able to obtain 4th along with Carmella Foley taking 6th. Alana Ontiveros had to battle back to take 6th after falling her quarterfinal bout. At 180lbs, Keana Valle showed how much of a pinning machine she was by pinning every opponent she had and took 4th in the weight. Finally, at 207lbs, Neila Fritts ended the day by taking 4th in her weight class.
 

Oaks Champion
Menlo was able to crown three champions in the tournament. Ce'ariah Sands was able to win the 145lb weight class, displaying consistency and determination on the mat in order to obtain 1st place.
